EXALTATION [2021]

I wrote and directed this short dark comedy set in a b-horror cult film back in 2013. Due to some freak style accident/disaster, all of the hard drives the film were saved on and backed up on were completely wiped clean and the film was written off as ‘never to be seen again’. Then by another absolutely insane chain of events, 8 years later during the 2020 pandemic— an incredibly rare 1080P rough cut of the short was uncovered by an old crew member deep in the bowels of an abandoned cloud account that was now re-instated for working at home. Now with something tangible in my possession— I decided that although we didn’t have any alternative takes to use, I would recut this 1080P rough edit into the closest living/breathing version of my original vision that I possibly could.

Though it definitely has a few bumps and warts, I reimagined a solid chunk of the second act inspired by the editing techniques of French New Wave greats and Hollywood indie grit king, Cassavetes and was able to create something I never thought it could be and I’m extremely excited to share this short film to the world later this year via the Midnight/Dark Comedy film festival circuits and also eventually publicly on Vimeo once the circuits have run their course.
